Our Space

Located less than 10 minutes from downtown, CRAFT can seat 30 crafters and accommodate up to 50 standing guests. Our studio features an open concept design that encourages creativity and provides easy access to an extensive library of DIY tools and supplies. For larger events, tables and shelves can be rearranged to create plenty of room to mix and mingle.

Our Story

After years of storing craft supplies under her bed and making last minute trips to the art store for a pinch of some specific shade of green glitter, Eli realized what Austin needed: a place where anyone–from crafting hoarders to rookies–could make a mess and create. “Why not make a lovely space,” she thought, “like a gym, but for making stuff. Instead of treadmills, we’ll share paint, glue guns, googly eyes, and wood scraps. People can show up and work on any project they want. It will be Austin’s craft room.”

And that’s exactly what she did. Since opening in 2013, CRAFT has become Austin’s creative hub for DIY crafting, workshops, and events.

Eli, Creative Experience Officer

After graduating from high school in Austin, Eli attended Scripps College in California, where she founded Challah for Hunger. In his 2007 book, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World, President Bill Clinton praised Eli for being an example of compelling giving. Challah for Hunger now boasts chapters at nearly 80 colleges, and although she’s no longer on staff, her proudest accomplishment is its endurance and strength.

Eli has no formal art background but has always loved making things. She started CRAFT in 2013 after coming to the conclusion that if she was going to accumulate an excessive amount of art supplies, she might as well share.

Last week I did a couple morning show segments with @tierraonfox7! We have a ton of cool frames in the studio right now (some of them vintage), so I wanted to show what you can do with old frames! This is one of my favorite projects so far this year! I used the old frame, those baggies that things like garlic and tangerines come in, and fabric scraps -- all upcycled. And then I cut out paper hearts and used a touch of hot glue to connect them to the fishing line to hang in the frame/wreath. What do you think? Sweet February decor?? Are you doing anything extra fun or special for Galentines or Valentine's or Palestines or whatever? Anything to celebrate special relationships in your life? My next project: cards to send little notes to people who've made a difference in my life.

Tie dying is one of our favorite group activities! Tie dying is one of our favorite group activities! Affordable, easy fun, can go in different directions like bold 🌈 or subdued 🌸, and can be applied to shirts, towels for B. Springs, undies, and more! If your group is interested in doing an activity like tie dying, please reach out as we’d love to help you plan it.

And yes, we highly recommend jello shot syringes to apply smaller amounts of dye with precision. We've been reusing this set for years -- and speaking of reducing, reusing, and recycling, dyeing a strained clothing item is a great way to keep it in circulation in your wardrobe instead of tossing it!
